I am going to present a new online lab management system. The aim of this web/mobile app is to allow students to request teaching assistants help during lab sessions. The different types of help requests allowed by the system, along with the data and feedback recorded for each interaction are used to build students profiles.
The first use of the latter information is to highlight the three main clusters in a students cohort:
(1) Over-performing (2) performing as expected (3) underperforming and therefore need extra support and guidance.
The new system aims at building a dataset of of students profiles and therefore allows the implementation of an alarm system for detecting less-engaged students, teaching content issues, lab resources availability, etc.
The current project aligns with the imminent adoption of the Intelligent Campus paradigm by the UK Higher Education sector.
More information about the intelligent campus initiative can be found here.
